Your muscle memory is still there, you just need to get to it again. Only way to do it effectively is to force your brain into submission and make it create new pathways to the muscles. Sadly that means repeating tasks over and over again.
My mom lost all function to her left arm, but by telling herself to use the arm normally(eg grab that glass and drink from it) even if her arm was not responding, the brain reconnected itself to the muscles.
She's still impaired, but most of the simple functions are back.
